ISTD Syllabus

Our Classes Start at the age of 18 months. We provide a fun-filled 30-minute class which aims to develop and improve children’s gross motor skills. Through movement to music, mime and imaginative play, children experience physical, social, and cognitive development; it is the perfect introduction to dance for very young children.

Imperial Classical Ballet
The roots of Imperial Classical Ballet stem from the early days of the ISTD and the first written syllabus in 1913 which was based on the teaching of the French School from the Paris Opéra. The syllabus has now evolved to promote the English classical style and address the changing needs of Ballet dancers today. We offer classes from  Pre Primary up to Grade 6.  The grades include classical technique, free movement and character styles of dance.

ISTD Modern Theatre Dance
Modern is often seen on the stages of West End Musicals. This genre provides a wide range of exciting dance styles including aspects of contemporary, jazz, lyrical, blues and street dance. One of the most enjoyable aspects of this genre is the wonderful range of musical styles that can be brought into class.

Students can attain high levels of skill, by learning correct dance technique, which further complements all their other dance training.
Students can study the comprehensive ISTD syllabus, which provides a framework through progression from Primary to Advanced levels.

ISTD Tap Dance
Tap dance is exciting, fun and is very satisfying for young children as it is possible to create a simple rhythmic routine from the first lesson onwards. The children love the sound of their noisy feet, and quickly learn to listen carefully to the rhythm and beat of the music.

We follow the recently revised ISTD Tap dance syllabus, which provides a framework for progression from Primary to Advanced levels.

Jazz
The class is structured to include warm up, kicks, tricks, turns, flexibility, strength, cool down and set choreographic pieces each term. We provide training incorporating aspects of Radar Technique to encourage strong jazz technique, as well as artistic style.  We love to use current music from the charts and produce exciting, up to date choreography!

Musical Theatre

Considered to be the triple threat of the performance world, Musical Theatre combines singing, acting and dance, for all round training.  Children learn a wide variety of musical pieces, including many West End favourites and gain confidence in their performance skills.

Acrobatic Arts

Acro is a form of gymnastics designed specifically for use within dance.  The skills are taught from the perspective of using them to flow between dance skills.  They have a form of artistry combined within them and need to gained without the use of a sprung floor, therefore technically different.  When Acro is performed correctly, it will not have a stop, start appearance, but will blend fluidly within the dance.
